The Giant Crabs are a fan favorite, and seemingly must be popular among the developers as well. There’s a surprising bit of world building behind some of them that is almost impossible to conclude just from the ingame information though.

23.11.20221:20 Huh, their name is literally "Silver People", shirogane jin, jin is a term used to describe a ethnic group, or something of the sort. Like, Nihonjin means Japanese person(Japan person). So it could be translated as something like "Silverese" lol
That being said, "Shirogane" is an obsolete term for silver, no one really uses it anymore, silver is "gin".
I'm just here to weeb out in the comments, even though I'm not a weeb, i just know Japanese. lol

23.11.2022The crabs being present in Raya Lucaria could mean that the crabs, or their blood, are used in the process of making albinaurics. Some crabs have light blue blood, that could appear platinum. Famously the blood of the horseshoe crab makes a lot of medications possible, especially vaccines.

23.11.2022For whatever reason that I had to look for the comments and they were hidden like Wikipedia what the hell the video pauses because of this glitch on YouTube maybe it's the ram on the computer but come on anyway I just wanted to say this was random as hell I don't know what the hell this is about but I get it and I'm entertained so thank you this was so funny

22.11.2022If you open the map at Raya Lucaria, then switch to underground viewing, you’ll see it’s on top of the lake of rot.
The entire ceiling of the lake is covered in massive glintstone obelisks. The crabs are feasting on the waters above, as with the Miranda flowers.

20.11.2022If the academy's silver is "white gold", is that why Miquella's gold is "unalloyed"? Even disregarding the fact that "white gold" is literally the name of a type of gold alloy, using "金" and "-auric" to describe silver beings seems to be deliberately inviting the comparison.
Makes sense thematically, too. If white gold is the gold of sorcery and intelligence, it is also at least in part the gold of The Golden Order, Radagon/Marika's fusion of faith and reason. That's what Miquella rejected.

20.11.2022Looking at this made me think about the crayfish. I had the idea that there was a possible link with the albinaurics there as the ones in the village (like albus) kind of have this crayfish / lobster-esque hunched over body posture.

20.11.2022I have the answer for these crabs. The albinaurics were created artificially, then naturally evolved into crabs. Why? Well I have been recommended a video many times asking the question "why everything is evolving into crabs" and I never watched it, but it's good enough for an explanation to me

19.11.2022I almost want to say that the Academy Lucaria is, well, an academy. it should supposedly have students, even though there's a giant red wolf in the lecture hall. maybe students attempt to create Albinaurics, and either crabs are a simpler form to make as practice, or if you do something wrong, caricinization just ends up taking over and you end up with crab?
and maybe the glinstone ones stole or ate some glinstone. or stole a student's crown. who knows.

19.11.2022So you're saying they're imitation crabs

19.11.2022Raya Lucaria wanted to create the perfect lifeforms and they chose crabs, since arthropods continue to evolve into crabs over and over independently

19.11.2022Maybe the crabs were made to absorb small amounts of glintstone in the soil/flora/fauna they eat? And then can be harvested through them?

19.11.2022I believe in theory Albinaurics created in Raya Lucaria, especially when they named it White (represented the moon) and Gold (represented the golden order), might be one the reasons perceptors wearing sealed mask, but i may as well be reaching

19.11.2022Clearly, when Old Man visited Raya Lucaria to study some magic, he created the crabbos as his familiars. They have sleep mist so that if anybody came to badger him about the Miracle Build, the crabbo could breathe on him and he would sleep until they went away.

19.11.2022considering the location of the academy crabs are probably just the medium of choice for experimentation. their version of labrats. being easily influenced by outside factors just makes them even more suitable.
Konv
19.11.2022I wonder if they're planning to create some false diety for Albinaurics for DLC, some form of creature that managed to harness its capability to adapt to everything after surviving for so long having escaped the clutches of the academy.

19.11.2022The individual characters that typically make up "Shirogane", 白金, essentially mean "White" and "gold", and the same actually seems to be true for "Albinauric", which is based on the Latin words for white and gold, album and aurum. Interestingly, the game uses hiragana for Shirogane whenever referring to the Albinaurics, so it's significant that it's written like that on the crabs.
